Bad Advice Taken
Eve listened to the serpent.
(Genesis 3:13) "And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat."
...and she was deceived.
(1 Timothy 2:14) "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression."
Adam listened to Eve.
(Genesis 3:12) "And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat."
...and creation was cursed.
(Genesis 3:17-19) "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."
Abraham listened to Sarah.
(Genesis 16:2) "And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai."
...and the course of history for the Jewish nation was established.
(Genesis 21:12-13) "And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed."
Aaron listened to the children of Israel.
(Exodus 32:21-23) "And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them? And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief. For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him."
...and they worshipped a false god.
(Exodus 20:4-5) "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;"
Samson listened to Delilah .
(Judges 16:16) "And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;"
...and lost the power of God in his life.
(Judges 16:20) "And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him."
Ahab listened to Jezebel.
(1 Kings 21:25) "But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up."
...and his children were cursed.
(1 Kings 21:29) "Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house."
Haman listened to Zeresh.
(Esther 5:14) "Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made."
and died at his own hand.
(Esther 7:10) "So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified."
(1 Corinthians 15:33) "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners."
The company you keep will determine the trouble you meet.
Good Advice Taken
Ruth listened to Naomi.
(Ruth 3:5) "And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do."
...her great-grandson became a man after God's own heart.
(1 Samuel 13:14) "But now thy (Saul) kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man (David) after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee."
David listened to Abigail
(1 Samuel 25:32-33) "And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me: And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand."
and his anger was appeased.
(1 Samuel 25:26;31) "Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal." "That this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine handmaid."
Esther listened to Mordecai.
(Esther 2:10) "Esther had not showed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not show it."
...and saved her people from destruction.
(Esther 8:11-13) "Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey, Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.">
Peter listened to Andrew>

...and became a fisher of men.

Philip listened to the Holy Spirit.

...and the gospel was taken to Africa.
(Acts 8:27;39) "And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship," "And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing."
The Philippian jailer listened to Paul and Silas.
(Acts 16:27-30) "And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
...and the true gospel was proclaimed.
(Acts 16:31-32) "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house."
(Proverbs 11:14) "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety."
The first step to wisdom is silence; the second is listening.
Bad Advice Not Taken
Job did not listen to his wife.
(Job 2:9) "Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die."
...and God rewarded him for retaining his integrity.
(Job 42:10) "And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before."
Jesus did not listen to the devil.
(Luke 4:4;8;12-14) "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." "And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about."
...and became our example in temptation.
(Hebrews 4:15) "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin."
(Proverbs 1:10) "My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not."
The best way to be successful is to follow the advice you give others.
Good Advice Not Taken
Noah's preached for one hundred twenty years.
(Genesis 7:7) "And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood."
...but only eight people were saved.
(1 Peter 3:20) "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water."
The children of Israel would not listen to Joshua and Caleb.
(Numbers 13:31-33) "But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."
...and did not enter the Promised Land.
(Numbers 14:22-23) "Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:"
Moses struck the rock.
(Numbers 20:8-11) "Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also."
...and was denied the reward for his labor.
(Deuteronomy 32:48-52) "And the LORD spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying, Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession: And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people: Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel. Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel."
The rich young ruler did not listen to Jesus.
(Matthew 19:20-21) "The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me."
...and went away a lost man.
(Matthew 19:22-24) "But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
Felix sent Paul away.
(Acts 24:24-25) "And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee."
and made an eternal mistake.
(2 Corinthians 6:2) "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)"
Agrippa did not listen to Paul.
(Acts 26:28) "Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian."
...and died a fool.
(1 Corinthians 1:18) "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."
(Proverbs 12:15) "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise."
Learn from others' mistakes rather than making them all yourself.
