"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." Matthew 22:36-37
This is a benchmark Scripture. It must not be passed over lightly. Do I really love the Lord this much? If we are to have revival, we must meet the requirements of this Scripture in our heart. Too often our love grows cold, mechanical and businesslike.
The test of our love is found in 1 John 5:1-3, "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."
Do we keep His commandments? Are His commandments grievous? Do we love our Christian brothers and sisters? The reviving heart of a Christian will love the Lord, His commandments, and his brother.
Real charity, according to 1 Corinthians 13, will produce different conduct in the believer. It will not criticize, but have compassion. It will not demand, but devote. It will help rather than hurt. It will not seek things for itself, but for others. It will not be easily provoked. It will bear all things. It will endure all things. It will not behave like a child. Lastly, real love will produce holiness in our heart, in our soul and in our mind.
